Injector Cleaning F.A.Q

Here are some frequently asked questions from our customers regarding our services and ultrasonic injector cleaning:

What is ultrasonic injector cleaning?

Passing ultrasound though a solution produces millions of high energy bubbles that release their energy when they make contact with a solid object. This energy is effectively a tiny explosion, removing any loose matter that has adhered to a solid object. This process is ideal for cleaning precision automotive components and has more recently been used by hospitals to sterilise operating implements and tools.

Why should I clean my injectors?

No matter how well you maintain your vehicle, you cannot stop either tiny partials of dust entering the fuel supply (and subsequently passing though the fuel filter) whilst you refuel or tiny contaminates passing through the air filter whilst the engine is running. This contamination is made worse by modern emissions recirculation systems that recirculate exhaust gasses into the inlet manifold for reburning.

Over a period of time this contamination will cause injectors to run at less (sometimes much less) than their full potential. Our injector cleaning service returns the performance of injectors to that when they were new - restoring fuel economy and engine horsepower.

We recommend injector cleaning every 50,000 miles of driving distance from a regularly serviced vehicle within the UK.

Can injector cleaning really save me money and improve performance at the same time?

Yes! Fuel economy is restored by the removal of debris from the pintle area of the injector and engine horsepower from replacing/empting the injector micro filter. In addition, the restoration of the injector spray pattern produces a more efficient combustion, reducing unburnt hydrocarbons passing though the exhaust and into the atmosphere - literally 'throwing away' petrol to be an atmospheric pollutant.

As fuel prices continue to rise the potential for saving money increases. We envisage a point when injector cleaning will be as common to an engine service as replacing air and fuel filters.

Can you clean my injectors?

We can clean any petrol or diesel injectors, replacing used components with new where we are able to.

What about fuel additives promising to clean my injectors?

Fuel additives do a good job of cleaning carbon deposits from both the inside of your engine and the valves but in reality do little for fuel injectors (except in very serious cases). Neither do such additives balance out injector flow or identify problems with resistance or leaking.

We only recommend using them once every 10,000 miles as overuse can damage to both catalectic convertors and lambda (O2) sensors - this risk is substantial when 'on car' cleaning equipment is used..

Can you supply new fuel injectors?

Not at the moment. Presently we only stock reconditioned petrol injectors. You are welcome to email us your requests though.

Can you service my common rail diesel injectors?

Yes, but our service only addresses problems caused by blockages, sludge, carbon build-up and grime. Our service does not address problems caused by mechanical wear or electrical failure. Nor can we 're-code' common rail diesel injectors to your ECU where this is required.

Can you clean my idle control valve?

Yes we can. Particular types of idle control valve are prone to clogging up with oily black sludge (from exhaust gas recirculation - a by-product of annual Government requirement to produce more efficient and lower polluting engines). We remove the black sludge through the ultrasonic cleaning process and re-lubricate and test the valve prior to return. Genuine part idle control valves can cost well over 150, making our refurbishment a bargain by comparison.

Clogged idle control valves are by far the most common cause of an erratic, 'lumpy' or non-existent engine idle. We recommend further removing sludge from the inlet manifold using carburettor cleaner or '10K Boost' upon refitting a cleaned idle control valve.

Will ultrasonic injector cleaning cure my emissions problem?

Possibly - Depending on the cause of the problem. Some emissions problems are caused by engine wear that injector cleaning cannot address. However, it is likely that injector cleaning will cure an emissions problem should the source be diagnosed as 'dirty' or problematic injectors.

Why is postage more for diesel injectors?

Diesel injectors are typically at least twice the weight of petrol injectors. The cost of returning diesel injectors with insured postage is reflected in our postal charge.

I have a problem with my engine. Would cleaning the injectors fix it?

It depends upon the nature of the problem. Please contact us using our webform to explain your problem in the clearest and most concise way possible. We will try to diagnose your problem based on what you tell us.

I have a question not answered above - how can I contact you?

Please use our webform. We endeavour to answer all questions within 24 hours - regardless of the day.
